    Why Choose Bridge Banners?
    The first ever bridge banner in UAE was installed for HSBC for a month long campaign by ENG Outdoor in 1999 and from then on, the media caught the fancy of advertisers.
     
    The municipal tax for advertising was charged at Dhs 2,400 per month.
     
    The campaign was extended at a municipal tax of Dhs 4,200 per month.
     
    By the 3rd month, the municipality has raised the municipal tax to Dhs 10,000 per month.

    Bridge advertising gained momentum nevertheless with a host of blue chip clients innovating with the media followed by govt depts and others in the private sector.

    It reached a stage where Govt depts enjoyed the monopoly on this medium due to lack of advertising fees for all govt dept at the dismay of private clients.

    In a bid to increase advertising tax revenues and bring more partiality, the Municipality decided to tender all the locations they had to the highest bidders.

    In Feb 2003, The Municipality announced a public tender where they packaged A, B and C category bridges together in various packages and put to tender.

    In lieu of grabbing this brilliant advertising medium on prime location, companies over-priced their tenders and quoted steep in order to get this.

    Bridge Banners now attract a lot of attention wherever they are installed and especially more so, in areas of high vehicular traffic and denser consumer areas.

    How big are the bridges?
    Most of ENG Outdoor's bridges are 6 high by 105 feet long. There is no standard size as the bridge sizes all depend on the bridge space available for advertising.     Where does ENG Outdoor have bridges?

    Are the bridges illuminated at night?
    All ENG Outdoor's bridges are backlit illuminated from one half hour before sunset to 3:00 A.M., using the most state of the art lighting. An illuminated bridge becomes even more visible at night.

    If my campaign breaks in the middle of a month, will I have to pay for the entire month or for the period used?
    Bridge leases start on the 1st of any calendar month. Hence the client will have to pay from the 1st of the month.

    Circuits are generally packaged in for 3, 6 or 9 sites. But client do have the have the option of increasing them to 12, 15, 18 or in further multiples.

    Yes this is the concept on which circuits are sold to provide wider coverage across the UAE. You can go for sites also in other emirates like Al Ain, Ajman, UAQ and RAK.

    How many sites in a circuit can be on Sheikh Zayed Road?
    In a 3 or 6 face circuit, only 1 site on sheikh zayed road is possible and in a 9 or 12 face circuit, 2 sites are possible. All will be B faces though as A faces are far more premium than the circuit rate.

    Do you offer circuits in Backlits?
    Since backlit signs are limited in numbers, we do not have any special package which takes care of backlit circuits. However, clients wanting a number of backlit signs can choose from the available locations.

    Where do the buses move in the city?
    Buses move across the full length and breadth of the city of Dubai and are moving on specified routes or paths to pick up their passengers.

    If I need to keep track of Buses plying on which routes, will I be provided with photos every month, with date and time and route no?
    No, we can only provide u which routes the buses are on but not what date and time as there are multiple buses on each route and it depends on how in what sequence they get out of the municipal garage after a wash every morning. If you would like photos, we could provide u these on a regular basis.

    What happens if the bus meets with an accident?
    When the bus meets an accident, it will be reported to us. Depending on the nature of the accident, it will repaired immediately and put right back on the roads. If this repair will take more than 3 days, then we will reprint the advertising on another bus for client. In any case, the print area will be replaced and the days lost will be compensated if more than 3 days.

    What happens if the bus is down and out of service?
    We even monitor on a daily basis and downtime is at a 4% which we cannot do anything about. If the downtime is more than 3 days, which is very rare, then we will reprint the advertising on another bus to ensure that the client’s campaign does not get hampered.

    Do you print on top of the bus?
    Unlike Europe and the Americas, the top of the bus has very little visibility in the UAE and hence we not print on the top of the buses. But technically, we can.

    Visibility of a creative on the Back window sometimes is a problem due to the dust & smoke collection can you suggest a solution for this?
    This problem is only evident in the MERCEDES bus model and this is because the exhaust in at the back on the bus. This is an in-built error in the buses and hence cannot be rectified. Although the buses are cleaned daily at the bus depot, we provide extra cleaning teams to ensure that the adverts are clean most of the time, if not all the time.

    What is the frequency of Inter-Emirates buses?

    There is only 1 taxi operator allowed to advertise in the city of the Dubai. It is the Dubai Transport Company and it operates 2700 taxis in the City out of which only 1000 taxis are available for advertising.

    No, the packages for advertising cover the full range of taxis including airport taxis and these taxis cannot be only used for any specific areas as taxi movement depends on passenger demands.

    Contact us for availability dates. Some of our locations are occupied long term and some are available sooner. ENG Outdoor does need to check with existing advertisers regarding their intentions to renew their contract (60 days in advance for long term contracts).

    How do I know how many people see the site?
    ENG Outdoor does commission private research in terms of traffic studies with IPSOS STAT and has authenticated data on traffic counts for a majority, if not all its locations.     The Impressions an ad has is generally calculated by the number of cars that pass by that site being multiplied into a multiple of 1.5 (Gallup Poll standard rating) to calculate the amount of impressions that site has per day.

    If the site is not available when my campaign breaks but subsequently becomes available, can I move my site to the new site mid-way? What is the cost implication?
    If a particular site is not available at the beginning of a campaign, but subsequently becomes available, the cost implications will be based on a case to case basis and with, prior understanding. Rates of respective sites will be taken into account on a case to case basis. This is not a normal practice.

    Who provides the creative artwork for the sites?
    Artwork is provided by the advertiser or advertiser's agency approximately seven (7) days prior to the display start date.

    Can you do the creative for us?
    Yes, we can. ENG Outdoor provides an in-house team of creative graphic designers who can create attractive ads for any storyline or brief. Cost for photography, high resolution scanning, models etc are to be paid extra if the brief so requires.

    How long can I take to submit artwork to ENG Outdoor?
    One week from the date of confirmation and ENG Outdoor needs seven (7) working days to produce and install the creative. Nevertheless, the time taken for artwork creation should be dictated by the display date and by ENG Outdoor’s lead time for production and installation.

    What is required when submitting artworks to ENG Outdoor for execution?
    ENG Outdoor requires camera ready, scaled artwork. A scale of ½"=1', 3/8"=1', or ¼"=1' is fine. Photographs should be the highest resolution possible (ideally 300 dpi) or, if an electronic photo, the best .eps or .tif possible.

    What are the materials the displays are produced on and are such production costs included in the quoted rates?
    Displays are produced on vinyl/flex material. The display material is included in the total rate. Where-ever, separate costs are quoted, the costs are additional.

    Is it possible to print and provide ENG Outdoor the display material from other third parties?
    This is not possible nor allowed as ENG Outdoor produces all display material in-house through its digital printing division. Material produced by other 3rd party vendors does not meet the quality standards ENG Outdoor has set in term of picture resolution, material thicknesses, material durability and has in the past produced post installation and dismantling problems on sites where this had been allowed. Hence, the practice is not allowed anymore.

    How often can the message be changed within a contract period?
    Messages can be changed within a contract period any number of times. If the sites are to be re-printed, the re-printing cost will be charged extra depending on the size of the site. In case a vinyl is to be shifted then the dismantling and re-installation cost will be charged extra. In the case, new animation has to be created, the new animation cost will be charged.

    What is a cut-out or extension?
    Extensions are add-ons that extend beyond the basic shape of the ad face. They increase the impact of the billboards, twin poles or bridges. Extensions can be added at a one-time charge for installation/fabrication.

    How do you handle cut-outs, extensions and other non-standard designs?
    It would depend on client’s requirements and on a case to case basis.

    How big can a cut-out extension be and how much does it cost?
    Cut outs can be 4 feet above the top of the billboard and 2 feet on the bottom and sides. For bridges and twin poles, it can be 25% of the height of the site. Costs of the Cut outs can be calculated after we have reviewed the artwork for fabrication.

    ENG Outdoor can execute special effects such as 3D, inflatable and mannequins. These special effects are quoted upon request on an individual basis.

    Yes, the sites in our database are clear of all court injunctions, litigations etc.

    How do I ensure that artwork is clearly re-produced?

    In case whereby the Government or a landlord decides to remove the site, are we reimbursed the charges or is an alternate site given?
    Charges can be reimbursed for the balance period of the campaign after deduction of production charges or an alternative site can be provided subject to its availability.

    Defaced/vandalized sites are whose responsibility? Will I get additional time for the downtime period?
    ENG Outdoor will be responsible to ensure that the quality of the sites is maintained. In the case of a defaced or vandalized site additional time will be provided depending on a case to case basis and only after 72 hours of downtime have elapsed.

    What are payment terms?
    Payments terms are 50% and the balance 50% before the end of a campaign if it finishes within 30 days or within 45 days if it is a long term campaign or contract. Delayed payment will attract a penalty of interest payments and ENG Outdoor reserves the right to claim for this or shorten the contract duration due to this delay in payments. For a detailed study, look into a standard contract document.

    When I make a booking, how do I know that the billboard is not given to any other advertiser?
    To ensure the billboard is not given to another advertiser, the client will have to enter into a written contract with ENG Outdoor. Sites are subject to availability.

    How do I know that ENG Outdoor will not give my site away to other advertisers?
    In order to ensure the selected sites are not given away to other advertisers, the concerned client/agency will have to release a Purchase Order to that effect. On receipt of the Purchase Order, ENG Outdoor will send a contract for signatures and on its receipt, confirm to the concerned client/agency in writing about the availability of the site. All sites are subject to availability prior to receipt of the Purchase Order/written contract. Once written contracts are signed between ENG Outdoor and the concerned client / agency, they are not broken unless sites are to be re-located or dismantled.

    Can I cancel a contract once I have begun using a site?
    ENG Outdoor's contract does not allow for cancellation. Advertisers can check with management about writing a contract with a cancellation clause. Most cancellation clauses include a short rate charge and 90 days written notice

    How often does ENG Outdoor check to see that the sites actually exist in good condition?
    ENG Outdoor checks the existence of all its sites on a daily basis through maintenance and monitoring teams. Through such support mechanisms, ENG Outdoor ensures the correctness of the printing with respect to spelling errors, omissions and additions. The support system does not undertake a judgmental/quality check of the printing of vinyl e.g. correctness of the logo, product, the design, its proportions, ratio, color scheme, color shades etc. Through support mechanisms, ENG Outdoor ensures that digital boards are displaying advertisements and are not stuck or shut down.

    Does my site have round the clock maintenance cover?
    Yes, all sites are patrolled by several 18 hour maintenance and monitoring vehicles.

    What is the latest traffic statistics which you have?
    We are the only outdoor media company which carries out such traffic surveys. Our last traffic survey was in 2002 and 2003. We will shortly do a new traffic audit for 2005/6 for all our locations.

    What is an agency discount because I want to protect my self?
    Agency discounts are 15, 17.5 and 20%. It depends on the annual business committed by the agency and hence, we need to set this after discussion with each agency.

    How come my discount and other agency discount is not the same?
    Agency discounts depend on the volume committed by agencies to us. The differential discounts make sure that agencies are not set up just to avail agency discounts as direct client discounts are lower.

    How will I be compensated for the delay in production and Installation from your side, which will affect my plans?
    We state that we need 15 days for production and installation. If artwork is given to us, we will execute the job within 15 days as committed unless it is a new site which is being installed. If the delay is still from our side, we will compensate by providing the lease only from the start of the display date.

    With over 700 sites in our space inventory, we avoid giving out rate cards and instead like to focus on the requirements by selecting sites in target market areas. All our quotes carry size requirements.

    Why is it that your prices are comparatively more expensive than the average market prices?
    Historically, any small time competitor has found it hard to sustain head on competition as our products and services are better by far. In a bid to not loose monies, and still make their bank loan repayments, break even pricing is often offered to clients to clinch deals against us. Furthermore, site prices are largely dependant on rentals and hence vary from site to site.

    Why is the rate increasing each year on Sheikh Zayed Road?
    The rates are now increasing due to a large rental increase in the landlord rents on this road. Instead of shooting up the prices to reflect the sharp increases in the costs, we have taken a view of year on year price increases, then compromising on our margins.

    Strand Cinema
    Our first screen was strategically located at the busy Strand Cinema Junction. This important junction has traffic viewing from 3 different directions : traffic coming from Maktoum Bridge going towards Burjuman Centre, traffic coming from Karama dispersing at this junction and, also the traffic coming from the Creek Side.

    Galadari Junction
    Our second screen is located at the busy Galadari Junction. Over 16 lanes of traffic ensure not only high visibility of the screen from various angles but also deliver a phenomenally high traffic count. Not only does the Sharjah-Dubai going traffic sees this screen, but also vehicles coming and going to Ghusais, Salahudin Street (Dubai Cinema Road) and Ramada Continental area(Mamzar area).

    Are LEDs a popular medium?
    The first ever electronic signs were introduced in the early 90s in the US (mid 90s in the UAE))and were bulb based lamp technology. These were only capable of showing animated graphics.

    Then, by 1995, wedge based electronic screens were introduced in the US and were hailed as the next generation of electronic billboards but were still unable to run video graphics.

    In late 1997, full motion electronic display were launched by various worldwide electronic screen manufacturers using LED(Light Emitting Diode) technology.

    ENG Outdoor installed its first screen in October 1999 in the city of Dubai. The screen was purchased from Europe after a 2 year worldwide research on manufacturers and the new emerging technologies.

    ENG Outdoor purchased their 2nd and 3rd permanent LED screens along with 2 movable LED screens in 2001.

    Clients found the medium very attractive and striking, and started using the media as it gave them the option of having their brand in full motion video like on TV and was excellent in communicating their message to the still consumers at traffic lights.

    What is an LED sign?
    An LED is an electronic sign, which in video mode with a full RBG (red, blue and green) colour scale can run video advertising and animation. LEDs come in mono-color and full color and the it’s the full colour ones which are used for outdoor advertising.

    How many times does my advertising spot get exposure in a day?
    On average you are guaranteed 180 exposures/spots per day. This rises as the loop time is lower than 6 minutes and also vice versa.

    What are the average loop/cycle times ?
    The average loop/cycle time is 6 minutes but during special period of high advertising activity, the average loop extends to over 6 minutes to a maximum of 12 minutes. Adverts are refused after the cycle time touches 12 minutes. During weaker period, loop times can be as low as 4 minutes.

    What is the total Display time ?
    The LED screens operate from 7am to 2am at night. Only during special periods like Ramadan and Dubai Shopping Festival, the screens’ running times are extended to 3am.

    Who provides the creative artwork for the LED ads?
    Artwork is provided by the advertiser or advertiser's agency approximately three (3) days prior to the display start date. Art designs are not included in the space rate but can be arranged for at an additional charge. ENG Outdoor provides an inhouse team of creative graphic designers who can create attractive ads for any storyline or brief. Cost for photography, models etc are to be paid extra if the brief so requires.

    What is required when submitting artwork to ENG Outdoor for execution?
    ENG Outdoor requires camera ready, scaled artwork. A scale of ½"=1', 3/8"=1', or ¼"=1' is fine. Photographs should be the highest resolution possible (hopefully 300 d.p.i.) or, if an electronic photo, the best .eps or .tif possible. Super-VHS, Betacams or DVDs are acceptable to copy stills and video for client’s artworks.

    As the media is similar to TV media, can we get exposure frequency validated?
    Outdoor media research is very different than any other advertising medium research and we cannot validate exposure frequency in the same manner as done for TV as the audience is mobile in Outdoor Media and different variables apply here.
     
    At times the clients complain to us on the Loop time increasing, request for advance intimation for the clients update.
     
    Standard loop time is of 6 minutes. Clients when getting less than this take it for granted as they get higher exposure when their ads appear more than they are actually paying for. In peak times, instead of increasing prices, we increase loop times as majority of seasonal advertisers would like to promote themselves. Client should expect this during DSF, Gitex, Ramadan, Eid and other seasonal events.

    One Week is the shortest possible booking, but we can entertain an advertiser for even a day, if they are willing to pay the surcharge for 50% for a daily ad.

    Is it possible to choose peak traffic time exposure on LED?
    No, because all the ads are loaded in the loop which will automatically run the entire day.

    Can one client take the advantage of more exposures?
    Yes, it is possible. One client can double the number of his exposures by paying double to increase the recall value. All that needs to be done in this case is, that the advertising will come up twice per loop.

    What are the Industry Trends of Rooftops, Billboards & Unipoles?
    The first billboard in the UAE was installed by ENG Outdoor in 1991 at the Al Ahli Club and was a static frontlit double sided unipole.

    1996 saw the first competitor to ENG Outdoor.

    The trend was first in seeing triovisions signs appearing and then in the early 2002 moving gradually from triovision signs to a mix of triovisions and premium backlit locations across the cities.

    Yes, this is possible as once a campaign is stopped or over, we can store your material at a storage charge payable 100% in advance.

    Can I change sites if another site is available?
    If you give a 3 months prior written notice to shift to another site when it becomes available, you will be allowed to shift subject to the new site having the same size as the existing one, it is the same rate as your existing site and you pay the shifting charges of 1000 Dhs.

    What will be the lease cost for using billboards both static backlit and triovision for an innovative creative which will be a front lit exercise?
    Costs depend on the sites rents we offer and the costs of any special productions are estimated by our engineering departments after we study the creative with specifications and sizes for it. Whether the site is front lit, trio vision or backlit, the costs of dismantling the site will be separately added to the cost to whatever needs to be done for the final output.

    How would you recommend A & B sides on Shk Zayed rd and why?
    Choosing A or B sides depend upon a client’s budget and the availability of A or B faces. Many clients go for 1 A face; some go for 1 B face, some for 2 B faces and some for 3 A faces. It all depends on what the client is requiring and what suits them.

    Why do you have static backlit between the 4th to 6th interchange on the B side?
    This is because we have trio visions on the A side and also because trio visions on the B side may not get much exposure as the driving speeds are high in that area.

    We could convert a trio vision to backlit if there was a sign with 3 available faces.

    Can we change any tri-o-vision uni-pole to the backlit sign on a special request, or it is only for some special cases? As some have been changed on the Sheikh Zayed Road?
    Yes we can change a trio vision to a backlit sign but this is possible only if the other faces on that trio vision do not have an advertiser and the client pays for the cost of conversion.

    Can I change my ad from one Board to another?
    Under normal circumstances this would not be possible but since we use changeable panels at our trio visions, we can allow this but we would require the following:
    1. Three (3)months notice to re-sell the current sign
    2. shifting charges
    3. The adjustment in the lease amount if the sites are not the space price. All of this is only applicable if the sizes of the sites is the same, otherwise, an additional cost for re-printing would be required.

    Is that possible to put different kind of header except the open neon sign on the top of my sign?
    Yes you can. Since neon is most visible, most of the clients prefer to use open neon in their headers. Some of the clients have also used front covered acrylic for their aluminum letters in their headers.

    What are the industry trends for Twinpoles?
    The first ever Twinpole in UAE was installed for XXXXXXXX by ENG Outdoor in 1992 and from then on, the media caught the fancy of advertisers.

    All clients who found the medium attractive and striking, started using the media through us as it was very cheap and was good at communicating their message to the moving traffic.

    Since it has traditionally been very difficult to target the residents of the secondary emirates, clients have always relied on communicating there messages to them whilst they have been travelling in and out of the city on the inter-emirates highways rather than focusing via other traditional media.

    Clients also use twinpoles to increase their brand awareness amongst the consumers living in the Northern Emirates.

    Clients find this a very inexpensive way to inform their customers.

    Although we used to hand paint the twinpoles, now the majority of all our twinpoles have high resolution digital prints used on them. Other smaller contractors still use and paint and vinyl applications.

    Municipal authorities have recently cleaned up the mess created by unorganised clients and contractors and regularised this form of advertising by having stricter control and guidelines.

    The advertising is now more controlled and hence the vast numbers of bad structures and badly maintained signs are a thing of the past.

    Can you light up my Twinpole?
    No. It is extremely difficult to light a Twinpole as power needs to be drawn from the closest Distribution Board (DB) or lamppost. Special permissions are needed from the various Municipal authorities of that emirate to process such an application.

    What if there are no Twinpoles where I would like to install my twinpole advertising?
    Yes, we can install a Twinpole for you even if there are no Twinpoles installed in those locations. We will need to get special municipal permission for the twinpole but for a minimum 2 years period. These permissions are needed from various governmental dept (not only the advertising dept) and due to this, usually takes over a month.

    Yes, we can install your own Twinpole if you buy it on an outright basis but we will not maintain or insure it against damage.

    Can I have different size of Twin-pole on outright bases?
    Yes you can but the municipalities generally have accepted our sizes as the norm. The maximum difference we have seen at sites is 10 x 30 and as such we would need to re-estimate the wind pressure and loads on the signs and hence recommend following our regular sizes.
